Help Reinstate the CoV Sex Work Social Planner

Apr 30, 2026

This is a call to action: help reinstate the Sex Work Social Planner by emailing the City of Vancouver today.

After learning the City of Vancouver has eliminated one of only two Sex Work Social Planner positions, WISH Drop-In Centre Society, PACE Society, SWAN Vancouver, Living in Community Society, and RainCity Housing released a joint statement asking the City to reaffirm and demonstrate its commitment to sex worker safety by immediately reinstating this critical position.

To support our call, Women Transforming Cities created an email template that you can copy, personalize, and send to the Mayor and Council. Please send your email by Wednesday, May 20!

The Sex Work Social Planner’s work is especially critical as organizations report increasing violence against sex workers, and Vancouver prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The associated increased police presence and heightened surveillance displaces sex workers from street-based work, and leaves them disconnected from essential services.

Sex Work Social Planners help prevent violence, reduce vulnerability, and strengthen communication between sex workers, police, community organizations, and the City.

Help honour the longstanding relationships and trust that has grown between City staff and sex workers – ask the Vancouver Mayor and City Council to reverse this decision today!
