Why WISH?
Do you feel passionate about working to improve the health, safety and well-being of cis and trans women, Two-Spirit, Non-Binary, and gender diverse street-based sex workers? Do you have a strong understanding of the systemic barriers and oppression that WISH participants face on a daily basis? Do you share WISH’s values of harm reduction, non-judgment, and anti-oppression?
Then come join the team at WISH, the largest organization in Canada supporting street-based sex workers.
“It’s easy to see how our work impacts the folks who rely on WISH – it sounds cliché but the work that we do really matters, and we make a difference. I don’t think I’ve ever worked with such a dedicated, hard-working, and diverse group of colleagues.”
WISH Staff
Why WISH exists
WISH exists so women, trans, Two-Spirit and non-binary sex workers can live and work on their own terms, free from violence, judgment and rescue. We create space for safety and connection by centring street-based voices within our community.
Our Vision
Safety. Dignity. Self-Determination.
For every sex worker.
Our Core Commitments
Rights, Not Rescue
We don’t save people. We stand beside them.
Safety is the Floor, Not the Ceiling
Every program, policy, and person at WISH has to build safety.
Autonomy Always
People know what they need. We listen to them.
Centring Lived Experience
Sex workers inform decision-making.
Harm Reduction is Essential
Substance use exists, healing exists. We support everyone.
Decolonization is Practice, Not Promise
We work on stolen land and serve a large Urban Indigenous community. We build relationships with intention, respect, and accountability.
Accountability Builds Trust
Say the hard things. Own the mistakes.
Care is Collective
We approach the work, and each other, with care.
Diversity & Inclusion
At WISH, we take our commitment to diversity and inclusion very seriously. To honour this commitment, we strongly encourage women with lived expertise in sex work, Indigenous women, Black women, women of colour, trans women, and members of other equity-seeking groups to apply. Our offices are wheelchair accessible, and people of diverse abilities are encouraged to apply.
