Join Team WISH at the Vancouver Half Marathon Charity Challenge!
Whether you’re looking for a serious challenge or a fun activity for the whole family, Team WISH has got you covered. You can sign up to run the 21K, walk the 5K, opt for a virtual course that you create, or make a pledge to support someone who is running to raise funds for WISH!
The Vancouver Half Marathon Charity Challenge is one of our largest fundraising events of the year. Unfortunately, due to COVID, we have not met our fundraising goal for the past few years. This year we are lacing up, training for the big day, and encouraging everyone to take part.
Race day is Sunday, June 25 and this course is known for its scenic ocean side route.
Join us for a spectacular day, as we join together to raise money for a great cause. Will you help Team WISH reach our goal of $30,000?
If you have any questions – about race day, supporting a racer, volunteering on race day, or registeration – please get in touch!
You can reach WISH’s Communication & Development Officer Lauren at 604-669-9474 x. 125 or devofficer@wishdropincentre.org.
Here are a few tips to help with the registration process:
1) Please use this WISH Referral Link to register. You will need to create a (or sign into your) Race Roster account to complete the registration process.
2) Next, choose how you would like to participate! An in person walk or run on June 25, or a self-directed “virtual race” any time between June 1 – June 30. You can also challenge yourself to The Threepeat which is a virtual 5k and 10k plus the in person half marathon. This is a great way to build up stamina before the big race.
This year, there is a new option to select a “GREEN BIB” registration, which includes a donation to a sustainability charity (Trans Canada Trail or Trees for Life) in lieu of a Vancouver Half Marathon shirt and medal.
3) In the next step you will be asked to share your personal information, including medical and emergency contact details. There are a lot of questions! Only the ones with the red asterisk * are mandatory to answer.
You also have the opportunity to personalize your race bib at this stage, with the name you would like to appear, and select your Vancouver Half Marathon shirt size.
Near the bottom of this page, after the products and merchandise section, there is another very important section to fill out called Teams. This is where you can join an existing team or create your own!
This year we invite everyone running for WISH – staff, volunteers and supporters – to be part of the same team.
To join the WISH Drop-In Centre Society Team:
Select “Yes, add this registrant to a team created by someone else”
Team category – Charity Challenge Fundraising Team
Select team – WISH Drop-In Centre Society
At the end of this section, you can add another registrant (if needed), or click continue.
4) The next steps take you through the event waivers, give you a chance to kick start your fundraising campaign by making a self donation, and you can also choose to purchase insurance that will “Protect your purchase with RegShield from unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from attending.” The final step is to pay your registration fee.
5) We also recommend personalizing your fundraising page, with information about WISH and why supporting WISH is important to you. The dedication you have to supporting WISH participants and programs will inspire people to donate and support your efforts!
Once you are registered, and you have personalized your fundraising page, it’s time to start sharing the page, promoting your involvement, collecting donations – and, of course, training!
Remember that if you are joining the in person race, you will need to pick up your Race Kit between June 22-25 at Forerunners (3889 Main Street, Vancouver BC).
We will stay in touch and send you information to help you prepare for the big day, and hope to see you in person at the Vancouver Half Marathon Charity Challenge!
Thank you so much for joining the team – you make WISH happen!
The Charity Challenge race is taking place on the unceded, stolen lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) First Nations.
